Chairlift

Food makes for good props in the sunny, dance-inducing video for Polymorphing by Chairlift. The band was formed in Boulder, Colorado during the early 2000s by Caroline Polachek, Patrick Wimberly, and Aaron Pfenning. Polachek and Wimberly are the remaining members and as a farewell to Chairlift they decided to give us avid listeners one last hurrah with the release of this video.

Starting as a collaboration between the musicians while in college, Chairlift have proven themselves to be innovative producers with a knack for experimenting with fresh sounds to create emotionally-charged songs. Caroline Polachek has the angelic voice of someone born with an old soul, calming yet emotive. She uses it as an instrument in every song, along with the intoxicating beats that she produces with Wimberly on their third and final album, Moth.

Tracks like Polymorphing and Moth to the Flame are stand out, feel-good summer songs that should be on every pool party playlist. Almost every track on Moth is dance-able in some form. Inspired by New York City, the album is a culmination of beats with various instruments, mixed with bizarre but beautiful sounds. Invoking the spirit of being around immense diversity, even their slower songs such as Crying in Public and Unfinished Business turn the tempo up just enough to keep your feet tapping. All in all, I have to say that I truly value the work that this musical duo has produced thus far. I am very sad to see them depart ways but I am hopeful in seeing them evolve as artists, whether it be separate or together again in the future.
